7 Fabulous Christmas Party Ideas

Christmas and the winter holidays provide great excuses to throw a party, not that you need one. But expect friends and family to make time for visiting and sharing goodwill during this cold winter season.

At Hendersonville Tents, we love to gather with friends and family to exchange gifts, share a cup of good cheer and just catch up. We wish the same for all our customers and want to thank you for your support this past year. We’d love to set up a tent for your holiday bash. But whether you plan on celebrating indoors or out, please enjoy these seven fabulous ideas for your Christmas party:

1. Pay to Play

Be a real Santa to your employees this year by throwing them a holiday party during work hours. That’s right. Give employees a holiday lunch, complete with a big spread under a tent in your parking lot. You can decorate it separately from the office and surprise your staff as you usher them into the holiday tent.

2. Getting Involved

At home, a Christmas tree decorating party can be fun, but most people have “been there-done that.” Instead, offer a Christmas cookie decorating table, complete with fresh-baked cookies of all shapes and sizes. Lay out tubes of frosting, candy confetti, food coloring and coconut. Hold a contest to vote for the best cookie in the house.

3. Movie Time

Choose one of your favorite Christmas movies and ask guests to dress as one of the characters. On a big-screen TV (rent one if you don’t own one), run the movie after everyone’s had a chance to eat and mingle. Encourage guests to speak the lines of their characters when they appear on screen. For example, if you choose “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a guest dressed as Violet shouts out, “My flower, daddy,” at the appropriate time. A Sam Wainwright character can shout his “hee-haw” throughout the film. What a hoot you’ll have when more than one guest comes dressed as one of your movie characters.

4. Themed Out

The ugly Christmas sweater party is a bit overdone, but keep the intent by coming up with another theme for inspiring your guests to dress. See who can come as the best-dressed Santa or Mrs. Claus. Ask everyone to dress as elves. Beseech guests to bring out their tackiest Christmas socks and to leave their shoes at the door when they enter.

5. All That Glitters

Bring out your inner ice queen and decorate your home or office in glittering white and silver. Ask guests to come dressed in glitter and provide plenty of the shiny stuff to throw around during the party. Serve snowballs and Ice Caps, frothy white punch and glittering cakes. Use an ice sculpture as a centerpiece and set up an ice bar, complete with iced-lattes or frozen martinis.

6. Sweets and Treats

Give everyone what they really want — candy — and lots of it. Whether you’re having an open house in your home or office or throwing a full-blown party under a tent with a band, serve only sweets. Let guests know on the invitation so they can get their protein before they arrive. Ask guests to bring their favorite Christmas cookies or cake and place candy canes, chocolates and truffles in dishes everywhere around the room, leaving the buffet spread for the cakes and pies. Top the table off with a chocolate fountain.

7. Daytime Party

Change things up this year and throw your Christmas party during the day. Invite guests to a Saturday or Sunday brunch and set up a hot chocolate station with candy canes and cocoa. Serve pancakes in holiday shapes and breads, muffins, cakes and pies with pans filled with smoked meats, roasted potatoes and eggs. If you’ve got one, light the fire to give your rooms a holiday glow.

No matter what kind of celebration you cook up, enjoy yourself and your guests. Do all the cooking and baking done before guests arrive so you can join the festivities. Call Hendersonville Tents if you need extra tables or chairs or if you’d like us to set up a tent in your yard. Above all, have a most pleasant holiday season. And may you and yours be blessed in 2015.
