Choosing a Date
How to Choose a Date for Your Wedding
Congratulations on your engagement!
Now comes the hard part: planning the wedding. Whether you use a professional wedding planner or decide to do it yourself, your very first step is to choose a date.
Everything depends on when you decide to get married. Let Hendersonville Tents provide some expert advice so you don’t choose a date based on your horoscope or the Farmer’s Almanac.
Don’t rush. It’s going to take time to plan the wedding you want. Give yourself about a year to choose a date that everyone can make, gets you the venue you want and lets you plan for all the arrangements. Remember, a custom wedding dress takes months to make and personalized wedding favors don’t just happen.
A time for all seasons. Do you prefer one season over another? If you’re a beach girl, you may want to pick a summer month, but it can get hot. Summer in the mountains is cooler. On the other hand, winter in the mountains isn’t the best time to be out in a tent.
A meaningful date. Once you’ve narrowed your choices down to a few months, look at a calendar to determine if any date strikes you. The anniversary of your first kiss, your first date or your parents’ anniversary might be examples. Just avoid family birthdays and dates with other meanings (like 9/11).
A long weekend. You can choose a date that’s a major holiday, but keep your guests in mind. No one may want to give up their Christmas or Independence Day celebrations, but it might be OK to hold a New Year’s Eve wedding. Cost becomes a factor for some holidays as well, since travel in December or roses on Valentine’s Day are going to be expensive.
Savings galore. Speaking of costs, you can save a bundle if you choose a date that’s in the off-season. Summer in ski country or winter at the beach. Venues and services may fight for your business, giving you unbeatable savings.
Specialty weddings. If you want a themed wedding (e.g., country-and-western) or a destination wedding (e.g., at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville), you may want to consider an appropriate season. How comfortable are your guests going to be in costume or at the destination of your choice? A specialty wedding may make you change your date.
Honeymoon plans. Unless you’re planning a delayed honeymoon, consider that you’ll be leaving after your wedding. You need to plan for time off from work, so tax season, for example, is the wrong time for an accountant to get married. Depending on where you plan to go, you may want to change your wedding plans to accommodate your honeymoon. After all, who wants to go to Niagara Falls in the winter?
Regardless when you decide to get married, you can rent a tent for the occasion if you plan early enough. Once you choose your venue — such as a mountain retreat or a scenic farm — call to reserve your tent. It’s the best way to ensure that you get what you want for your wedding where you want it.
