Set the Tone with Music at Your Next Event

If you’re hosting a party, consider providing some event music to make the proceedings (and your guests) hop. Music can set so many different moods, just as it also gets people dancing, singing and smiling. Music is the one thing, besides the quality of the food you serve, that people are bound to respond to. No matter what kind of event you’re hosting, whether it’s inside a large hall or outside under a tent, music makes it memorable. Your birthday bash, anniversary party, wedding reception or company picnic will swing along with the event music. Even if your affair is formal, a string quartet can capture the mood and please your honored guests. But before you step up to encourage your guests to step out, you have to decide what type of event music matches your type of event: Waltz or Two-Step?

If you’re supplying music for a wedding, you need variety, especially for the more traditional affairs. You’ll want:

  • The wedding march for the bride

  • A waltz for the first dance

  • Popular tunes for the reception

  • A good mix of fast and slow songs your guests will recognize

For a less formal event, you can get your guests to loosen up with line dances, country-and- western or bluegrass. It depends on what you and your guests enjoy. If you’re hosting a hoedown, all you’ll need is a string band and a stage.

Hendersonville Tents Party and Event Rentals can help you get everything you

need to prepare for your event music, from the sound system to the dance floor.

Two Choices for Event Music

After choosing the type of music you want for your event, you have to find someone who can play it. Basically, you have two choices when it comes to providing music accompaniment for your event:

1. Hiring a DJ or boom box operator

2. Hiring live musicians

DJs can be less expensive than a full band, but remember that there are many “starving artists” in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina, so finding a good, inexpensive band may not be that difficult. Live music is almost always more fun, since musicians can play off the crowd and respond with lots of fresh energy to get the party rolling. Conversely, a band rarely has an unlimited repertoire. A DJ can bring decades of singing sensations to an event, sometimes in the palm of his or her hand. DJs are practiced at mixing in the right tunes to appease a crowd, whether it’s classic standards or classic rock. If you let your DJ know in advance what type of music to focus on — rock, soul, jazz, and even classical — he or she can come prepared.

Both a DJ and a live band can take requests. Both add spice and energy to an event. You should include room in your budget for one or the other, but which you choose is up to you. At your event, music creates an atmosphere of fun for your revelers.
